Brown

shirt: Zara, sweater: J.Crew, vest: DIY (similar), trousers: H&M (similar), shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti (similar), purse: Gucci, bracelet: David Yurman

I think most of my friends will agree with me when I say, I have a "thing" for eyebrows. It is one of the first features I notice about a person's face and am always obsessing with my own. After years of using a regular brown eyeshadow from MAC as a filler, I recently made the switch to Anastasia Brow Powder. To be quite honest, I'm not sure what all the rage is about. The reason for my switch was to look for something darker and closer to my natural hair color. But even with Anastasia's darkest hue my brows are still too brown. I also find that it does not apply as smooth and the result is too powdery, heavy and not as natural as I would like (like here). In other words, I'm not very fond of the look. I am still on the hunt for a new brand and your suggestions are greatly appreciated. (I haven't used a pencil in years but I'm not opposed to the idea either.)

  1. Khatu- do you do your brows yourself or go to someone? I'm looking for a good person in Boston. Help!!

  2. I use MAC Carbon eyeshadow and an angled liner brush. I know the shadow is black but I actually find it matches better than using a brown shadow.

Love this look, Khatu! Red and brown look so good together.

  5. Hi Khatu! I just started using the Too Faced Brow kit.I actually did a review of it on my blog, if you wanna take a look at how the color looks on me. I have olive skin and dark hair like you...my hair may even be darker...I noticed the brow powder was a little powdery, too. I think because it's very matte?? But, when used in combination with the brow wax, it's perfect.

p.s. please don't judge my not-so-perfect brows LOL!! I'm working on it...

In other news, I love, love, love this outfit...especially the tights with the red strappy sandal! SO CUTE!

  6. I also use Maybelline Define a Brow and really love the results. I thought a pencil would be too stark, but it looks very natural.

  7. I use Make Up Forever Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector in #4. All you need is a SPECK (literally) and apply with a stiff angled brush. It takes a bit of practice, but I really like it and you will never have to replace the tube as long as you live.

  11. I really like the Lorac Brow kit. It comes with a dark brown and black section so you can mix to your desired shade. It also comes with some brow wax just in case you need it. Lasts forever too.

  14. I used to use brown, but someone suggested to use dark gray since the brown was too visible in natural light sometimes. Some of my Asian friends also use gray.. I tried lioele for my eyebrows and had decent results..

  15. I'm also still trying to find the right shade of eyebrow powder. I'm currently using some form NYX, but they fade too quickly and I have to apply a lot of coats. Let us know if you ever find the perfect eyebrow shade! Love your outfit, so much interesting textures going!

  17. You look so well put together - love! The pattern/texture mixing with coordinating colours is completely up my alley :) Also, you really do have great brows haha. I just started filling in my brows a few months ago after realizing just how important they are to a face. I use Laura Mercier Brow Definer with a stiff angled brush and I love it! I blend it a bit with a q-tip after to make it look more natural.

  19. Hi Khatu,

First time posting here. I have been using Smashbox's brow tech in the color brunette for several years now and i can't be without it. I understand the importance of a good brow. Let me know if you try it!

    Best,

  20. I really like Laura Mercier's brow definer in Warm. It's the best brow product that I have ever used. It's waxy so it stays and also sets the brows as well as filling them in with color.

  21. When I landed on your blog for the first time, I thought that you were a beauty blogger because you had amazing makeup application and beautiful glowing skin. I love how you never look overdone. Always natural, but well put-together with defined features.. and your eyebrows really ARE perfect!

  24. My recommendation: I always use a COLORED EYEBROW GEL to accent and style. It provides flexible application, color power and does not wear away. I love it. Unfortunately you will not get the same label (german drugstore) that I'm using in the states but have a look or maybe ask for something similar in your well-assorted drugstores.
    Have a nice WE

  33. Anastasia has a brow pencil with a spoolie in it: http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P202633&categoryId=S10515&shouldPaginate=true

I use a brow pencil now from a CVS brand called Nuance (it's organic) and I love it. I think dark black brows are too stark and unnatural for any face, but a blackish, darkish brown are pretty good. If you go with good waxy pencil with spoolie to smooth it down, you should get a more natural finish.

love the whimsicality of this outfit. The socks + amazing heels combo is a perfect and unexpected pop.

I love how Atlantic Pacific this is, but it's still very essentially YOU.

  34. Khatu, I now recommend: NYX auto eyebrow pencil in CHARCOAL http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/p-60-auto-eyebrow-pencil.aspx! It doesn't make eyebrows brown, stays on a long time, is very natural-looking (doesn't get too dark), and is only $4.50 or less! My go-to eyebrow filler/shaper now!
